The theme for the chapter this
fiscal year is “The Dawn of a New Chapter – Building the
Foundation.” As Aggies and Aggie supporters, we already
know that when a functional mechanism has fallen apart, it
must be evaluated, improved, and rebuilt. For this fiscal
year, the chapter will be dedicated to building the
chapter’s structure and ability to do business. While we
are building, we must contribute to NC A&T State University
and fulfill our mission.
I present you with the focus or
direction for the year. By committing ourselves to
fulfilling the five directives mentioned below, we will have
a successful year that we can be proud to be involved,
hereby, building the foundation for the future.
- President Byron Simpson, Jr.
Implement Organizational
Structure
For any chapter or organization to
prosper and be successful, there must be structure. For
this year, we must create, maintain, and follow documents
that will govern the chapter, create a Chapter Executive
Board structure that will involve the membership in chapter
operations and allow Board members to communicate and
operate the chapter under the will of the membership. Once
this is established, rules and policies shall be created to
insure professional handling of chapter business.
Increase Chapter Exposure
If the chapter will have an influence
on the city of Los Angeles, inform communities of the
excellence that NC A&T has provided and continues to
provide, we must publicize the purpose and activities of the
chapter and university. To make this a reality, we shall
create a network with other organizations and provide
activities that influence the membership and greater Los
Angeles community.
Manage Membership Recruitment
Active membership participation in the
chapter has been a problem in the past. If the membership
is happy with or feels appreciated by the Alumni
Association, there is reason to return to the chapter each
year. Without the membership, there is no chapter. To
maintain a solid membership, we must retain the
effort-giving and financially active members; solicit
potential members in public places, and present attractive
benefits for membership.
Produce Financial Stability
Everyone knows that an organization
will not survive unless there is a stable source of
finances. By executing a plan for raising funds and
soliciting funds from government and private sources, we
will bring money into the chapter to fill the financial need
for chapter operational expenses and donations to the
University Annual Giving Fund and scholarships. After a
chapter budget is created, we will create savings and relief
accounts for emergency situations and backup support.
Improve Chapter Communication
One of the purposes of the chapter is
to pass information from NC A&T to the alumni and supporters
in an efficient and effective manner. To do this, we must
improve the communications within the Chapter Executive
Board and between the Board and chapter members. By
creating effective methods of communication within the
chapter, communication will be improved.
