In Memory of an Aggie...

Mr. Curtis Hilbert Figures, Jr. was born on January 30, 1950 in the state of North Carolina.  Mr. Figures served his country as a member of the United States Army.  He was stationed in Germany from 1971 to 1977, where he served as an Equal Opportunity Review Officer.  Curtis graduated from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in 1980.

Curtis Figures migrated to California in 1981 where he became a faithful member of St. Luke Bible Fellowship in San Dimas, California. He loved to teach bible study and read the scriptures of the Holy Bible.  He was also involved with and a member of several business and community organizations, which include the Boys and Girls Club of Pomona, Youth Education Motivation Program (YEMP), Neighbor Helping Neighbor, Los Angeles Urban League – Pomona, North Carolina A&T State University Alumni Association, Inc. – Greater Los Angeles Chapter, and served as President of the Pomona Inland Valley Micro Enterprise Loan Fund.  Mr. Figures owned One Source Bottling Company in Pomona, California; was an entrepreneur at heart and affectionately referred to as “the water man.”

Despite Mr. Curtis Figures having received a liver transplant in 2004 and diagnosis with lung cancer in 2005, he was a loving and giving person who always had a positive attitude towards life. Curtis never complained if asked how he was doing.  He would often reply, "I'm doing great!"  He passed away on September 21, 2005.

As an NC A&T SU alumnus, Mr. Figures personified spiritual, professional, and entrepreneurial character. He is remembered for his love for God and his fellow man, selflessly giving his time to the community, actively supporting the chapter’s efforts with donations, and exhibiting the drive to run his own business.

On November 20, 2005, the members of the North Carolina A&T State University Alumni Association, Inc. – Greater Los Angeles Chapter voted to announce the first chapter scholarship in remembrance of the late Mr. Curtis Hilbert Figures, Jr.
